Ways to Upcycle Composite Decking Scraps & Samples

You may notice at the end of a project there are some scrap pieces of decking material and are probably wondering what we do with it. Good news! We do not throw extra materials away, in fact there are many ways to upcycle decking. In this week's blog we talk about the ways we can use scraps to elevate your project and a few ways to upcycle your Trex samples.
Vertical Skirting

One of the main and most common ways we use scraps to elevate your project is by using them for vertical skirting around the bottom of your deck. Deck skirting is a barrier or "skirt" surrounding the lower perimeter of your deck's substructure, which closes off and hides its underside. Skirting can be used as a visual tool to give your deck a complete looking finish, act as storage, or a protective screen to keep animals out of the area underneath.

Benches

Integrating benches into your deck build can be an easy way to add seating to your deck. Composite deckings weather resistant coating means no weathered looking or water damaged furniture. Elevate the look by adding a few cushions during the summer and store them in the winter eliminating the stress of storing all of that patio furniture.

Planter Boxes

Planter boxes can be a great way to bring bright contrasting colors to your deck with beautiful blooming flowers. Avoid the hassle of moving large heavy pots around at the end of the season and instead add an integrated planter box that seamlessly fits in with the rest of the deck. Composite decking is known for its weather resistance, which means no weathering or warping, making it perfect for planter boxes.

Cornhole Boards

Believe it or not, composite decking boards can make the perfect material for cornhole boards. Cornhole boards can be the perfect addition to your backyard barbeque! Fun for everyone and a simple way to upcycle scraps.

Elevated Deck & Fence is committed to minimizing waste on the jobsite. We are happy to add these options to your deck builds at minimal cost. If you are interested in adding to your build, talk to your lead deck builder and we can discuss ways to continue to elevate your space using the scraps from your project!
